RE: WYANDOTTE CATHOLIC COLLECTS AND SHIPS HALLOWEEN CARE PACKAGES FOR MARINES IN IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN
CONTACT: Judy Maiga Izzo
For the brave soldiers currently stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan, Halloween will no doubt be a very different day from what they may have been accustomed to in the United States. In an attempt to bring a tiny bit of comfort and celebration to October 31 for some Marines stationed overseas, the students of Wyandotte Catholic recently collected hundreds of items which will be shipped to Iraq and Afghanistan in time for the hugely popular American holiday.
Under the direction of new 8th grade teacher Jennifer Grover and as this month's "Make a Difference" project of Wyandotte Catholic, boxes of handmade greeting cards, dvd's, books, magazines, socks, foot powder, Halloween masks and treats will all be sent for distribution to Marines currently serving tours in the Mid East. Special attention was made to include local downriver Marines as part of the distribution. Ms. Grover states that her family has been carrying on this tradition for years with her mother through MarineParents.com and she was excited to be able to expand the project this year with the help of Wyandotte Catholic students and their families. Parents of students were thrilled to participate and certainly feel proud to be helping ease the difficult job of the men and women who give so much in their service to our country.
The "Make a Difference" project of Wyandotte Catholic has been a monthly tradition for over a decade, with many various charities receiving items and donations as the lesson of giving to tothers and helping your fellow human is instilled in the students.
